In a move that could reshape its regional routes, Polish flag carrier LOT is gearing up for a monumental decision. The State Assets Ministry announced on Saturday that LOT is on the brink of choosing between its current supplier, Embraer, and its rival Airbus for the delivery of 84 new aircraft.
LOT’s ambitions soar beyond this initial purchase, with plans to potentially acquire up to 110 aircraft by 2028. The ministry underscored the gravity of the decision, stating, “(LOT) is faced with making a strategic decision whether to continue cooperation with the current supplier (Embraer) in the regional segment or to switch to a competitor’s platform (Airbus).”
The airline’s imminent request for proposals will set the stage for a showdown between the two aviation giants. LOT’s fleet currently consists of 75 planes, with over half comprised of Embraer aircraft, alongside Boeing B737s and B787s.
