In a bid to bolster Belgium’s energy infrastructure, TotalEnergies is set to expand its footprint in the country with a second battery storage project. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten’s visit to TotalEnergies’ Antwerp refinery battery storage project, underlining the company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The new project, slated to be developed at TotalEnergies’ depot in Feluy, marks a significant step forward in the company’s efforts to enhance grid stability and support the growth of renewable energy sources. With a power rating of 25 MW and a capacity of 75 MWh, the project is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. This development, along with the Antwerp project, will bring TotalEnergies’ total storage capacity in Belgium to an impressive 50 MW / 150 MWh.

“These projects are fully in line with our integrated development strategy for electricity, not just in Belgium, but globally,” remarked Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President, Integrated Power at TotalEnergies. “These technical systems also confirm the European leadership of our affiliate specialized in battery production, Saft, and its industrial-scale stationary storage know-how.”

TotalEnergies is a key player in Belgium’s electricity landscape, with a portfolio of 900,000 customers as an electricity supplier. The company also plays a significant role in electricity production, leveraging assets such as the Marchienne-au-Pont CCGT power plant (430 MW), the Plate-Taille hydroelectric storage (140 MW), and an offshore wind farm in the Belgian North Sea (300 MW). TotalEnergies is actively involved in the development of solar and onshore wind projects, with a portfolio of 300 MW.

In the realm of electric mobility, TotalEnergies boasts over 10,000 charging points across Belgium, with a strategic focus on key cities like Antwerp, Brussels, and Ghent. The company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions underscores its position as a driving force in Belgium’s energy transition.

TotalEnergies’ latest battery storage project in Feluy is a testament to its dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions in Belgium and beyond. As the world shifts towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future, TotalEnergies is leading the charge, one project at a time.
