U.S. President Joe Biden expressed disappointment on Sunday over Chinese President Xi Jinping’s absence from the G20 summit in India but hinted at an upcoming meeting with him. Biden, speaking to reporters in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, remarked, “I am disappointed… but I am going to get to see him,” without providing further details.

Biden is scheduled to visit India from September 7 to 10 for a G20 summit, followed by a trip to Vietnam as part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen U.S. relations in Asia.

Sources familiar with the matter have indicated that Xi is likely to skip the summit, with Chinese Premier Li Qiang expected to represent Beijing at the New Delhi meeting.

When asked if he was looking forward to his upcoming trip, Biden responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes, I am.” He emphasized the importance of increased coordination, expressing that both India and Vietnam are eager to foster closer relations with the United States, which he believes can be highly beneficial.
