In an incredible comeback, Gilas Pilipinas overcame a 20-point deficit to shock host China, 77-76, in the Asian Games men’s basketball semifinals on Wednesday night, October 4, 2023. The game, held at the Hangzhou Olympic Centre Gymnasium in China, had fans on the edge of their seats.

This victory propels the Philippines to the gold medal match, where they will face Jordan, led by Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. The highly-anticipated clash will take place on Friday, October 6.

During the final period, naturalized player Justin Brownlee showcased his skills, nailing the go-ahead step-back triple with just 24 seconds remaining. Additionally, Scottie Thompson contributed 13 points, while June Mar Fajardo and CJ Perez added 8 each, solidifying the team’s shot at securing at least a silver medal.

This momentous win marks a significant milestone for the national program in the Asian Games, as it is their first podium finish since 2002. The Philippines currently holds a 1-1-9 (gold-silver-bronze) record in the Asian Games.
