As South Korea gears up to celebrate the Lunar New Year, Homeplus, a leading discount store chain, has announced its plans to offer a wide range of gift sets at discounted prices. The sale will run from Saturday through Feb. 11, aiming to cater to the tradition of gift-giving during this festive season.

Homeplus has carefully curated a selection of over 1,060 items, with discounts of up to 50 percent, based on consumer purchase data collected during the pre-order period. The retailer has prepared various gift sets, including budget-friendly options as well as premium meat and seafood boxes, alongside Homeplus-exclusive products.

In response to the current economic challenges posed by inflation and the cost of living crisis, Homeplus has ensured that 81 percent of the released gift sets are priced at 50,000 won ($37) or below. This move aims to provide customers with affordable options that offer great value for money.

Some of the popular gift packages available at discounted prices include apples, barbeque pork sets, seaweed, shiitake mushrooms, and Spam sets, which are particularly sought after during the holiday season. The prices of Spam sets have been reduced by about 7 percent compared to last year’s offerings during the Chuseok holiday.

Additionally, Homeplus has introduced attractively priced gift packages featuring wine, probiotics, beauty, and personal care items, exclusively available at their stores.

Customers using designated cards for payment can enjoy discounts of up to 50 percent, as well as receive gift vouchers and additional gifts based on their transaction amount.

The pre-order period, which ran from Dec. 21 to Jan. 14, witnessed a remarkable 242 percent surge in sales across Homeplus channels, including hypermarkets, Homeplus Express supermarkets, and online platforms, compared to the previous year’s Lunar New Year season.

Cho Do-youn, head of the Homeplus brand division, expressed optimism about the upcoming sales, stating, “Buoyed by the popularity of pre-orders for New Year’s gift packages, we prepared a diverse range of products for official sales as well. With a variety of Homeplus New Year’s sets, we hope customers will share holiday gifts without the burden of inflation.”

Homeplus’s initiative to offer discounted gift sets during a period of economic challenges reflects its commitment to providing value to customers while celebrating the traditions of the Lunar New Year.
