Lenovo, known for its cutting-edge technology, is diving headfirst into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) in Hong Kong. According to a recent survey by the company, Hong Kong’s corporate chief information officers (CIOs) are not just ready for AI—they’re eager for it.
In a stunning revelation at the annual Lenovo Tech World event held in Hong Kong, 95% of local CIOs said their budget requests for AI were being met or exceeded. What’s more, 44% claimed to have “more than what is needed.” This enthusiastic embrace of AI reflects Hong Kong’s advanced social-economic landscape, which allows companies to invest in new technologies with confidence.
Linda Yao, Lenovo’s Chief Operating Officer and Head of Strategy, highlighted Hong Kong’s tech maturity, attributing it to the city’s experience with both Western and Eastern tech stacks. This maturity, Yao explained, is driving Hong Kong’s readiness to “lean in” to AI.
Lenovo’s commitment to Hong Kong’s AI evolution is evident in its partnerships and initiatives. The company has collaborated with Microsoft to offer an AI-powered cybersecurity solution for local businesses. Additionally, Lenovo is rolling out Care of One, a workplace management platform that leverages AI to optimize software and hardware for employees.
Notably, Lenovo’s investment in Hong Kong’s tech ecosystem exceeds HK$1 billion (US$128 million) over the past five years. This includes support for local start-ups and research and development efforts. Such investments are crucial as the global PC industry increasingly integrates AI into its products and services.
Despite Hong Kong’s enthusiasm, Lenovo’s survey revealed some hesitations. Only 55% of CIOs felt adequately prepared to scale up AI, citing concerns such as security, speed to market, and unconscious bias. Additionally, just 35% believed their organizations’ leadership had a strong understanding of AI.
As Lenovo continues to drive AI innovation in Hong Kong, the city’s businesses are on the cusp of a technological revolution. With the right support and understanding, Hong Kong is poised to lead the way in AI adoption, setting a new standard for the rest of the world to follow.
