Liberty Networks, a subsidiary of Liberty Latin America (LLA), has recently activated two new regional Points-of-Presence (PoPs) in Merida, Mexico, and Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to meeting the escalating demand for IP Transit, DDOS Protection, MPLS, and Ethernet services in these bustling metropolitan areas.

Ray Collins, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure and Corporate Strategy at Liberty Latin America, emphasized the significance of these new PoPs in Mexico and Guatemala, stating, “The new PoPs in Mexico and Guatemala are pivotal in our network expansion efforts across the region. We are dedicated to investing in connectivity infrastructure as part of our US$250 million investment plan over the next five years.”

The addition of these two new PoPs marks a significant milestone for Liberty Networks, bringing its total number of wholesale PoPs to an impressive 94. The company has interlinked approximately 40 countries through a robust network of 50,000km of submarine fiber optic cable and 17,000km of terrestrial networks.

Liberty Networks’ strategic approach to enhancing customer experience revolves around improving reliability, performance, and data transfer speeds by strategically placing network nodes closer to businesses. This strategic maneuver is aimed at ensuring seamless operations for critical tasks and facilitating a more efficient user experience.

The decision to establish PoPs in Merida and Quetzaltenango was informed by the rapid growth of internet markets in these cities, coupled with their stable economies. This strategic positioning enables Liberty Networks to effectively support the region’s burgeoning digital landscape.

Earlier, Liberty Networks and Gold Data had announced the introduction of new subsea cable systems, GD-1 and LN-1, designed to provide diverse routes with the shortest latency from Mexico to the United States.

The activation of these new PoPs is poised to empower companies in Merida and Quetzaltenango to seamlessly connect with a global network of customers and partners, thereby fostering unprecedented international growth opportunities.
