George Foreman, the legendary heavyweight champion, entrepreneur, and beloved public figure, has passed away at the age of 76. His family confirmed his passing on March 21, 2025, expressing their deep sorrow and gratitude for the life he lived. Known for his power in the boxing ring and his warmth outside of it, Foreman leaves behind an enduring legacy that transcends sports.
Foreman first rose to prominence as an Olympic gold medalist in 1968 before taking the professional boxing world by storm. He claimed his first heavyweight title in 1973 by knocking out Joe Frazier in a dominant display of strength, forever linking his name to some of the greatest moments in boxing history. Though he suffered a famous loss to Muhammad Ali in 1974’s “Rumble in the Jungle,” Foreman reinvented himself in an incredible second act. After a decade-long retirement, he returned to the ring and, at the age of 45, reclaimed the heavyweight championship in 1994, making him the oldest fighter ever to do so.
Outside of boxing, Foreman became a global icon with the George Foreman Grill, a product that sold over 100 million units and brought his name into homes worldwide. A man of faith, he also served as a minister and dedicated much of his life to helping others. His passing marks the end of an era, but his influence will live on through his contributions to sports, business, and his unwavering message of perseverance. He is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Martelly, and his 12 children, all of whom he cherished deeply.
