Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture between two of Japan’s most influential companies, is making waves in the automotive world with the debut of its first electric vehicle, the AFEELA 1. Unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the AFEELA 1 represents a bold fusion of Sony’s technological prowess and Honda’s automotive expertise, aiming to deliver a next-generation driving experience that goes far beyond traditional notions of mobility. The company began accepting reservations exclusively in California, with plans to expand and begin deliveries in North America by mid-2026.

The AFEELA 1 stands out for its emphasis on software, connectivity, and user experience, rather than just raw performance metrics. Equipped with 40 to 45 cameras and sensors, the vehicle leverages advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and artificial intelligence to offer Level 3 automated driving under limited conditions, as well as Level 2 driver assistance for urban environments. The car’s technological backbone is supported by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis, ensuring high computing power for both safety and entertainment features.

Inside, the AFEELA 1 transforms the cabin into an immersive digital space. A panoramic screen spans the dashboard, offering both driving information and entertainment, while Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound technology creates a private theater-like atmosphere for passengers. The vehicle’s design philosophy, characterized by a flowing “oval” theme, harmonizes aesthetics with function. Sustainability is also a priority, with approximately 70% of the interior surfaces crafted from plant-derived and recycled materials.

Beyond its innovative technology and eco-friendly design, the AFEELA 1 seeks to redefine the relationship between people and mobility. Features like the customizable “Media Bar” on the front of the car allow owners to display personalized messages, while over-the-air software updates ensure the vehicle evolves over time. With pricing for the Origin trim starting at $89,900, the AFEELA 1 positions itself as a luxury EV contender, ready to challenge established names and set a new standard for what drivers can expect from the future of mobility.
