In response to reports from new buyers experiencing excessive warmth with their new phones, Apple announced on Saturday its intention to release an iOS 17 software update to address and enhance this issue.
The company has acknowledged and addressed concerns regarding the new iPhones running hotter than expected. They attribute this issue to a bug in the iOS 17 software, which will be resolved in a forthcoming update. Additionally, they explain that the initial warmth experienced by users during the setup or restoration of the device is due to increased background activity.
Apple has identified another issue with recent updates to certain third-party apps, which is causing system overload. They are collaborating with app developers to address and resolve the problem. Notably, Instagram has already fixed this issue with its app as of September 27. Apps like Asphalt 9, Instagram, and Uber are among those affected.
The forthcoming iOS 17 bug fix for iPhone overheating will not compromise device performance. Apple explained that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not overheat due to their design, as the new titanium shells enhance heat dissipation compared to previous stainless steel models.
These solutions don’t guarantee that your new iPhone will remain completely cool. Activities like intensive gaming, wireless charging, and streaming high-quality video can still lead to your phone warming up. “These conditions are normal,” according to a support page by Apple.
Using USB-C chargers with wattages exceeding 20 watts may result in increased heat when charging your phone. Apple clarifies that the new USB-C charging port, introduced for the first time this year, is not responsible for excessive heat.
Furthermore, Apple assured that this issue poses no safety or long-term performance risks for the phone, thanks to built-in protections.
