Thailand is ramping up efforts to attract tourists, especially from China, by focusing on high-quality services and improved accessibility. Nithee Seeprae, the deputy governor for marketing communications at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, highlighted the country’s commitment to providing top-notch services such as convenient entry, comfortable accommodations, and delectable cuisine to entice visitors.
The Thailand Tourism Forum 2024, held in Bangkok, saw the participation of scholars and industry leaders who discussed strategies to promote Thailand’s tourism industry. Nithee emphasized the pivotal role of tourism in Thailand’s economy, with China being one of its largest source markets.
Addressing a common hurdle for tourists, Nithee highlighted the visa process as an area for improvement. Thailand has decided to permanently waive visa requirements for Chinese citizens starting March 1, 2024, following the success of a temporary waiver period. This move is expected to further enhance Thailand’s appeal and contribute to its economic growth.
Aside from visa exemptions, Thailand aims to enhance its tourist experience by offering localized experiences, showcasing its exotic culture, and highlighting its diverse culinary offerings. These factors, according to Nithee, contribute to creating elevated lifestyle experiences that attract visitors from around the globe.
In 2013, Thailand welcomed 28 million foreign tourists, including 4.56 million from Malaysia and 3.51 million from China, its two largest source markets. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Thailand is optimistic about its tourism recovery and aims to attract 8 million tourists from China this year, representing a significant rebound compared to pre-pandemic levels.
With its focus on improving services, easing travel requirements, and showcasing its unique cultural offerings, Thailand is poised to strengthen its position as a top destination for global travelers, particularly those from China.
