Uniqlo’s Pay Boost: Fast Retailing Ditches Old Playbook to Woo Talent

Japan’s Fast Retailing is making bold moves to stay ahead in the fiercely competitive global fashion game. Starting March 2025, new hires at Uniqlo will see their monthly pay jump by 10% to ¥330,000, pushing annual salaries north of ¥5 million. Why the raise? It’s a clear message: the brand doesn’t just want fresh faces—it’s hunting for top-tier talent to fuel its worldwide ambitions.

Store managers are also getting a paycheck upgrade, with first- and second-year leaders set to earn ¥410,000 a month, up from ¥390,000. That’s a roughly 5% boost in annual pay, reaching ¥7.3 million. But the real shake-up is coming for Fast Retailing’s full-time staff at headquarters and stores. The company is rolling out a revamped pay structure that could see some salaries climb by up to 54%, all based on skill, ambition, and performance. In Tadashi Yanai’s words, it’s about creating a “virtuous cycle” where company success means bigger paychecks for employees.

This isn’t the first time Fast Retailing has stirred up its salary system. Back in 2023, the company revamped pay across the board, handing out raises ranging from 4% to 40%. But now, with the global retail landscape evolving at lightning speed, the Uniqlo operator knows that standing still isn’t an option. Higher pay is the lure to attract sharp minds—and keep them invested in the brand’s long-term growth.
