Hyundai Motor Group, under the leadership of Executive Chairman Euisun Chung, is setting its sights on India as a pivotal export hub, marking a significant step forward in the automaker’s global strategy. Chung recently visited the group’s Indian headquarters in Gurugram, where he outlined ambitious plans to strengthen operations and leverage India’s growing prominence in the automotive industry.

During his visit, Chung engaged with employees, discussing medium- to long-term strategies tailored for the Indian market. A highlight of the visit was a town hall meeting with over 400 employees, where Chung not only shared his future vision but also emphasized the importance of customer trust, employee dedication, and technological expertise in driving growth in India.

One of the key pillars of Hyundai’s strategy in India is its commitment to electric vehicles (EVs). Chung affirmed that Hyundai will actively contribute to electrification efforts, focusing on specialized EV development for the Indian market. This aligns with the group’s broader goal of leading India’s clean mobility sector as EV adoption becomes mainstream by 2030.

Hyundai’s relationship with India dates back to 1998 when the company established its first manufacturing plant in the country. Since then, Hyundai has solidified its position in India, consistently maintaining the second-largest market share—a testament to its strong presence in the region.

Looking ahead, Hyundai Motor Group has announced new investment plans in India totaling approximately 5 trillion won (US$3.75 billion). These investments underscore the group’s commitment to the Indian market, recognizing it as one of the fastest-growing automotive markets globally.

As Hyundai Motor Group continues to expand its footprint in India, driven by innovation and a commitment to sustainability, the future looks promising for the South Korean automaker in the dynamic Indian automotive landscape.
