ASE has launched its fifth plant in Penang, marking a significant leap forward in the company’s advanced packaging and testing capabilities. Situated in the bustling Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, this expansion is a game-changer, increasing ASE Malaysia’s total facility space from 1 million to a staggering 3.4 million square feet. This move reflects the company’s strategic vision to meet the growing demand for semiconductor solutions, reinforcing its leadership in the industry.
With this new facility, ASE is embracing the future of smart manufacturing. The plant is equipped with cutting-edge Industry 4.0 technologies, integrating AI-powered systems and automation to boost efficiency, enhance precision, and optimize production. Leveraging the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), the facility can detect abnormalities in real-time, streamline manufacturing processes, and improve yield, setting a new benchmark for semiconductor operations in Malaysia.
The launch event underscored Penang’s position as a top-tier hub for global semiconductor players. Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo highlighted Penang’s industrial excellence, calling it the “Silicon Valley of the East.” Meanwhile, MIDA’s Deputy CEO Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja emphasized the importance of collaboration between local firms and global leaders like ASE to drive innovation and industry growth. With the semiconductor market projected to reach $1 trillion in the next decade, ASE’s continued investment not only strengthens its global footprint but also fuels job creation, with 1,500 new hires anticipated in the coming years. This expansion is more than just about growth—it’s about shaping the future of the semiconductor industry.
